You can now connect Claude or ChatGPT to your Riverd account and ask about your practice the way you'd ask a colleague: what does my day look like, when am I free on Thursday, can Sam come in at 3? If you allow it, the assistant can also book, move or cancel a session, block off a morning, or add to your session notes. Connecting an assistant is included on every Riverd plan, including Brook, the free plan.

A lot of the admin in a solo practice is small questions about your own week. A client asks for "anything Friday", and answering means opening your calendar, checking your hours, remembering the dentist appointment on your personal calendar, and typing it all back. If you already use Claude or ChatGPT, you can ask it instead, and it answers from your actual Riverd schedule.

What can I ask Claude or ChatGPT to do in Riverd?

Claude or ChatGPT, once connected to Riverd, can read your schedule, clients, services, open times, time off, the names of your intake forms and your session notes, and answer questions about them in plain words. If you choose "Read and make changes" when you connect, it can also book, move and cancel sessions, add clients, send a session's client an intake form, block time off and write session notes. Intake forms are for practices in the US, so it can send one only if your practice is in the US. If the assistant says to confirm your practice's country, confirm it in Riverd, then ask again. It cannot take payments, and it cannot change your services, prices or weekly hours.

Here is what that looks like in a normal week.

You typeWhat happens in RiverdDoes your client get an email or text?
"What does my day look like?"Lists today's sessions, with each client and serviceNo
"Find me an open 60-minute slot on Thursday."Checks your booking hours against your sessions, your time off and, if it's connected, your Google CalendarNo
"Book Sam for a Swedish massage at 3."Books it. If 3pm clashes with something, Riverd refuses it and says what's in the way, and you can tell the assistant to book it anywayYes, the usual booking email, once the Undo window has passed
"Move my 2pm to Friday at 10."Moves the session and keeps its lengthYes, the usual notice, once the Undo window has passed
"Block off Tuesday morning."Closes those hours on your booking page and cancels nothing. It tells you which sessions already sit inside the blockNo
"Add Dana Lee as a new client, dana@example.com."Adds her. Riverd sends nothing to that address until it's confirmed, and the assistant should read it back to you first, so check it before you say it's rightNo
"Add to today's notes for Maria: tight left upper trapezius, wants to rebook in two weeks."Adds what you typed to that session's notesNo
"Turn those notes into a SOAP draft."Reed · AI drafts a SOAP note from that session's notes, if you allowed SOAP drafts. Nothing is saved until you askNo
"Undo that."Reverses the change, if its Undo window is still openA notice it caused that hasn't gone out yet is stopped

Reed · AI is your AI assistant in Riverd, the one that drafts SOAP notes in the app. Claude or ChatGPT is the assistant you connect, and it can ask Reed for a draft only if you tick Can start Reed · AI on notes when you connect. Each draft uses your AI credits. Everything else in the table uses none. If you haven't met Reed yet, meet Reed covers what it does and where it stops.

How do I connect Claude or ChatGPT to Riverd?

Connecting Claude or ChatGPT to Riverd takes a few minutes and starts in the assistant. You copy an address from Riverd, add it to Claude or ChatGPT, and then approve the connection on a Riverd page where you choose what the assistant may do. Riverd emails you when an assistant is connected, and every connection is listed on the Assistants page in Settings. The help article has every step.

  1. In Riverd, open Settings, then Assistants, and select Copy address.
  2. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector, name it Riverd, paste the address and choose Add, then Connect. In ChatGPT, open Plugins, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server, name it Riverd and paste the address.
  3. Riverd opens in your browser. Sign in, choose Read only or Read and make changes, decide whether to tick Can start Reed · AI on notes for SOAP drafts, confirm your time zone, and select Allow.

Claude and ChatGPT can both read your practice data and, if you allow it, make changes, like booking a session. ChatGPT may show its own "Allow ChatGPT to use Riverd?" prompt before a change, so read it before you say yes. You need your own Claude or ChatGPT account, and what you can add there can depend on your Claude or ChatGPT plan. If a menu looks different, Anthropic's steps for Claude and OpenAI's steps for ChatGPT have the current ones.

Check the time zone on that page before you select Allow. When you tell the assistant "3pm", Riverd reads it in the time zone you confirm there, so a session lands at 3pm where you work.

What you control after you connect

You decide what each assistant can do when you connect it, and Riverd keeps several checks in place after that.

  • Read only, or read and make changes. You choose on the Allow page. A read-only assistant can look things up and can't change anything.
  • You have time to undo each change. Bookings, moves, cancellations, logged sessions, intake forms, new clients and confirmed contact details for 5 minutes, and time off and session notes for 24 hours. Undo is refused if the same thing was changed again since. Ask the assistant to undo it, or use Changes you can still undo on the Assistants page in Settings.
  • Emails and texts to your client wait 5 minutes. A booking email or text waits until the 5 minutes pass, or until the session starts if that's sooner, so if you undo the booking in time, your client never gets that email or text.
  • Overlaps are refused. If a time clashes with another session, a busy time on your Google Calendar or your time off, Riverd refuses it and tells the assistant what's in the way. If you want the overlap, tell the assistant to book it anyway.
  • New contact details wait for you. Riverd sends nothing to an email or phone number an assistant adds until it's confirmed. The assistant should read it back to you first, so say it's right only after you've checked it.
  • Riverd emails you when an assistant is connected, the first time it makes a change, and the first time it reads a list of your session notes.
  • Disconnect any time on the Assistants page. It stops on its next request, and what it already changed stays in Riverd. An assistant you haven't used for 90 days is disconnected for you.

A few things an assistant can't do at all. It can't take or refund a payment, change your plan, or cancel a session that has started or that you've been paid for. Accepting a client's booking request still happens in Riverd. It also has no way to message your clients on its own, so they only ever get Riverd's usual notices.

Can a connected assistant read my clients' information?

Yes. Any assistant you connect to Riverd can read your practice data, including client details, bookings and session notes, whether you chose Read only or Read and make changes. It can see the names of your intake forms, but it cannot read your clients' intake answers. If your Google Calendar is connected to Riverd, the assistant can also see when you're free, worked out from your calendar's busy times. When a time it tries to book clashes with your calendar, Riverd tells it when that busy time starts and ends. It never sees what your events are called or any other details.

Claude is made by Anthropic and ChatGPT by OpenAI. Whichever you connect, its maker handles what it receives from Riverd under its own terms and the settings you choose with it, which may let the maker keep that information or use it to improve its AI. Riverd's promises about its own AI cover Reed only, not an assistant you connect, and Riverd can't see, change or delete what an assistant has already received. Check your assistant's settings to see whether it uses your chats to train its models. Before you connect one, read the help article's section on your clients' information and the Terms for connected assistants.

On notes, one thing stays exactly as it was. Riverd's AI never listens to your sessions. There is no microphone, no recording, and no transcription. A note starts with what you type after the session, whether you type it into Riverd or to your assistant.

What we checked before opening it up

Before launch, we connected Claude to a test practice the way you would: we pasted the address, approved it on the Allow page, asked it to look up services and time off, and had it block off some time. The block appeared under Changes you can still undo, one Undo removed it, and Claude confirmed it was gone. Then we disconnected, and Claude's next request was refused.

We set out in what AI can and can't do in a massage practice that a tool should never act or charge on its own. A connected assistant changes nothing unless you connected it with Read and make changes, can't take, refund or change a payment, and you have time to undo each change it makes.

For all of this on one page, see Connect Claude or ChatGPT. If you'd rather connect a spreadsheet or an automation tool than a chat assistant, API keys work the same way, with the same Undo and the same emails. Everything else Riverd does is on the features page, and the rest of what has shipped recently is in product updates. For how booking, notes and payments fit together in a massage practice, see Riverd for massage therapists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Riverd plans include connecting an assistant?+
Every plan, including Brook, the free plan. River and Fjord include it too. You also need your own Claude or ChatGPT account, and what you can add there can depend on your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
Does using an assistant use my AI credits?+
Only SOAP drafts by Reed · AI do, and only if you allowed them when you connected. Looking things up, booking, moving, blocking time off and writing notes use no AI credits.
Can I change what an assistant is allowed to do?+
You can turn off SOAP drafts for it on the Assistants page in Settings. For any other change, connect it again from the assistant and choose again on the Allow page. The new connection replaces the old one.
What happens to its changes when I disconnect it?+
The assistant stops on its next request. What it already changed stays in Riverd, and you can still undo recent changes under Changes you can still undo on the Assistants page.
Will my clients know I used an assistant?+
They get the same booking emails and texts they would get if you booked in Riverd yourself, sent once the Undo window has passed, or when the session starts if that's sooner. The assistant can't send them a message of its own. Telling your clients anything the law requires about the tools you use stays your responsibility, as the Terms for connected assistants say.
