About
I grew up on a S.A.D (Standard American Diet); all I ate growing up was fast food and processed canned & boxed foods. I didn't try a salad until I was in my early 20's! I had been overweight most my life and on top of that I was always lethargic.I finally hit a point where enough was enough, I wanted to look & feel better! So I started with finding a doctor, and from there, saw doctor after doctor, because nothing was changing. I felt like a pinball in a pinball machine! In 2010, (I believe The biggest Loser was pretty popular show back then) I decided to get the book Master your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels. This is where my eyes were first opened up to toxins & how it wrecks havoc on one's health! This led me to start reading more books based on health & wellbeing and scouring the internet for all things related to health. I went into total research mode! I then started looking for alternative medicine and other healing modalities in my area and giving them a try. I was learning a lot!In 2012 I started doing yoga and a shift happened. I went inward and started connecting with myself. Yoga made me feel more grounded, calm and content with myself. It helped give me the strength to remove myself from a toxic relationship and to seek out therapy. This sparked my interest to learn more about yoga; in 2014 I obtained my yoga teacher training certification.During my journey, I also stumbled upon the Paleo diet and was able to lose 30lbs. A Paleo diet helped me understand whole foods vs processed food and how processed foods effect the body. l felt better in my new body and what not, but wasn’t feeling the energy & vitality I wanted. So I decided to try the Keto diet for a few months, but no change. Next I tired the whole foods plant based diet for a year. It was new to me to eat so much fruit & raw veggies! I had so much conditioning to reprogram, as I had to undo my emotional ties to food. I was able to experience the power of vegetables and fruits, but it was not a sustainable diet for me. Although, I was using supplements to make up for the nutrients meat provided, I found out the hard way that my biochemistry needs meat: I gained back all the weight, there were times where I was seeing stars, having hot flashes and such bad anxiety on two separate occasions, that sent me to the ER thinking I was showcasing heart attack symptoms. (My dad's side of the family has heart issues.)So going from one extreme of diets to the other, I have now found balance through a Whole Foods diet. From my journey I was able to figure out that I was seeing doctor after doctor, because conventional doctors do not team up together to look at the person as a whole. I realized conventional medicine merely examines individual symptoms and presumes that they're related to various body parts.I am not saying conventional doctors/medicine do not help or have their place, they most certainly do. But, for myself (and a lot of my clients), I needed a more holistic/functional/integrative approach in order to get the answers I was looking for. This led me to pursue becoming a Functional Medicine Health coach, because I have learned so much on my journey and want to use that knowledge to help others!I can empathize with you, because I've personally been there. I know the hardships and I understand.I continue to learn; I am currently enrolled in an Herbalist program, an Energy Healing program and have yet to finish my Tai-Chi Teacher Training.I hope to be of service to you and look forward to working together! :)
