Originally from South Africa where I trained and practiced as a Pharmacist. Our family emigrated to the USA in 1998. I then spent an additional 2.5 years becoming re-licensed as a Pharmacist in the USA and worked in Retail Pharmacy for 18 years before I retired.Working in Healthcare I became aware of the health crisis in the USA (especially the rise in obesity and Type 2 Diabetes) and that pharmaceuticals alone could not stem the rise of these chronic disease states. Patients diagnosed with a chronic disease, or Diabetes, are very often on the slippery slope of worsening health, with little to no support to help them change their lifestyle or diet, to improve their long term health. My growing frustration of this situation, resulted in my search for a better way to address this healthcare scenario, resulting in my completing coursework in Functional Medicine Health Coaching through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA), and subsequent Board certification.At that time, I suffered increasingly from frequent headaches, inflammation, arthritic pain, irritable bowel, anxiety, terrible brain fog and physical and mental exhaustion. Along the way, I discovered I had a gluten sensitivity which may have originally precipitated my autoimmune disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. All of this has resulted in a decades-long personal journey to better health. I am glad to say that my health & wellbeing have improved greatly. I am very keen to help others regain lost vitality, via my sharing what I have learned with those I coach.My vocation in Pharmacy together with my certification as a Functional Medicine Health Coach, have equipped me well to facilitate positive health changes in others through My Vitality Regained LLC. My goal is to positively influence and help you transition to a lasting change in your lifestyle habits, through understanding how Diabetes / Insulin Resistance affects your body and what you can do to regain your vitality and reach your best health, along with decreasing your reliance on medications, where possible.As a Functional Medicine Health Coach and Pharmacist, I will be a mentor / guide to encourage you to reach your own health goals by helping you to devise and implement positive, sustainable lifestyle changes that encourage your body’s innate healing ability, resulting in improved health and vitality.My experience of working in Retail Pharmacy, combined with my training as a Functional Medicine Health Coach, helps me to:- Understand your medications and their effects on your body.- Encourage a healthier lifestyle in you that is less dependent on medications.- Work with you, and you with your primary care provider, to maximize your healing and help you to decrease medications, where possible.- Help you to uncover the underlying cause(s) of your Diabetes, or poor health and to address these, resulting in you experiencing greater vitality.I look forward to meeting you & working with you to find your best health possible!
