I'd been very sick for a long time, and nobody was listening to me. It was difficult to follow the elimination diet and everything else I needed to do with little guidance. Practitioners don't have an hour a week to sit down and talk with their patients. My sister who is a nurse practitioner told me about functional medicine said, "You could become a functional medicine health coach." I was ready for something new, exciting, and challenging, and I became the health coach I needed.Email!Food and childhood issues around food shaped my mind and body. I've added functional nutrition specialist to my functional medicine coaching credentials. For me, food is far more than something to eat. I'm an avid gardener, was a regenerative market farmer for ten years, and still grow most of my vegetables and some fruits. Cooking is a passion, and I co-hosted a cooking show for three years.My relationship with food is strong and healthy now, but it took a lot of work to get here. I understand binge eating, junk food, and weight loss surgery. Had I known then what I know now, I might not have needed surgery to help me reach my healthy weight. It's given me personal experience, knowledge, and empathy that makes it easy for me to work with others going through similar experiences.There's no judgement from me.
