Caren Messing

Caren Messing is a NYS licensed massage therapist since 1991 and is a core faculty member at The Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy since 1994. She teaches all Western Massage Therapy technique classes as well as Professional Development classes. Caren has taught continuing education workshops in Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue techniques and Body Mechanics to massage therapy staff at The Canyon Ranch Spa in AZ, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental NY and Massage Space NYC. Caren has maintained an active private massage therapy practice in Manhattan since 1991. She was sports massage therapist for the New York Giants football team for three years. She has been an associate massage therapist for Broadway performers and musicians (Movin’ Out, Grease, West Side Story, Come Fly Away) and for various dance companies. She is affiliated with BodyFit, a physical therapy office in the Chelsea district, and The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental NY. Her continuing education includes certifications in deep tissue massage, courses in trigger point therapy, sports massage, myofascial therapy, neuromuscular therapy, and massage in the performing arts. Caren earned her Massage Therapy Diploma from the Swedish Institute in 1991. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from SUNY Purchase, is a graduate of The High School of Performing Arts (theater) and is a native New Yorker.Caren practices swedish massage, trigger point therapy/neuromuscular therapy, sports massage/soft tissue rehabilitation, myofascial and deep tissue work along with passive and active stretching techniques.
