About
“ʻO ka hāʻawi lokomaikaʻi ʻana he mea kāhiko no ka puʻuwai, he kākoʻo no ka puʻuwai.”“Giving is an ornament for the mind/heart, a support for the mind/heart." Dāna Sutta (AN 7:49)https://www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/AN/AN7_49.htmlMy great-grandfather George Fujinaga of Haleʻiwa was considered a living treasure in the State of Hawaiʻi. Although Papa was renowned for kālai pōhaku (stone carving), his many talents also included Lomilomi. He was a self-taught practitioner in Lomilomi and provided his services to those in the Waialua / Haleiwa community. Like many Native Hawaiian healers and elderly practitioners, Papa practiced at his home and did not charge fees for Lomilomi, instead only choosing on occasion to accept hoʻokupu - unsolicited gifts. In that tradition, Lomilomi was practiced freely in our household - to comfort a newborn, to rejuvenate from vigorous youth sports, to ease swelling for an expectant mother, to rehabilitate after a day of labor, and to provide pain relief for the elderly. In 2015, I began my journey in professional Massage Therapy with the intent of furthering my knowledge in Hawaiian Traditional and Customary Practices. I attended and graduated from Hawaii Healing Arts & Massage Professionals and, in 2016, became licensed in the State of Hawaii. My formal education includes Swedish Massage Therapy, Petrissage, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Sports Massage, Prenatal Massage, Shiatsu, Acupressure, and Reflexology. My specialization is Lomilomi: I seek to perpetuate Hawaiian Traditional and Customary Practices - especially that of “aloha” - by giving freely of Lomilomi.
