About
I have done bodywork for as long as I can remember. My Grandpa was a mechanic and would spend long, tireless days bent over or reaching up working on other people's cars. In the evening he would come home, shower and then sit backwards in a kitchen chair and "Susie, will you rub my back?". With my little hands I would push and knead his tight shoulders and armsuntil my Grandma had supper on the table. I don't think I actually released any muscles but I do know that it was relaxing to him and it made me feel good to help him out. When I was a teen, my Mom was in a horrible car accident. To manage pain from her injuries she would go to a massage therapist every 2 weeks. After her sessions, she would come home, have me lay on the floor and show me what her MT did so I could, in turn, do it to her. In-between her massage appointments I would use those techniques she showed me to helprelieve her pain. I saw what a value human touch to a healing body could be.After highschool I went to Metro State in Denver. My major was meteorology, a far cry from bodywork. I worked towards my major but it didn't feel right. It seemed that I was going down a path laid for someone else, not me. I decided to put college on hold and join the workforce fulltime. This also felt like someone else's path.I decided to go to Heritage College of Massage Therapy. I thought that at least I could gain my massage certification and have a profession while I was figuring out what I wanted to do (when I grew up). Well that was 23 years ago and I either haven't grown up or this is really my calling. In my 23 years of practice I have work with people from all walks of life, from all around the globe. I have studied and put into practice; structural assessment, deep tissue, sports/event massage, prenatal and lymphatic massage. I have worked on people from the beginning of their life, as early as 6mo old to the end, patients in hospice care. I have had professional athletes on my table, congressmen, lawyers, teachers and the hardest profession of them all, stay at homeparents. I love what I do.It is not lost on me that I am blessed to be able to work with people, one on one, gain their trust and help them heal their bodies in the most natural way. Massage therapy is the oldest of healthcare. Just think about the first this you do when you have a sore muscle, you rub it. I'm pretty sure that has been the same practice since the beginning of time. I'm am lucky to have found my calling and I'm even luckier to be able to share it with you.
